Scientific Notation Calculator
Scientific notation is a way to express very large or very small numbers concisely. This two-way calculator allows you to convert any number into scientific notation, or vice-versa. Just type in either field to see the conversion.
Understanding Scientific Notation
Scientific notation is written as a product of a number between 1 and 10 and a power of 10. The format is:
a × 10b
On calculators and in programming, this is often represented as "e" notation (e.g., `1.23e+7` means 1.23 × 10⁷).
- A positive exponent (e.g., 10⁷) means the decimal point was moved to the right, indicating a large number.
- A negative exponent (e.g., 10⁻⁵) means the decimal point was moved to the left, indicating a small number.
